Isaiah 45:9-25

New American Standard Bible

⁹“Woe to the one who ^(A)quarrels with ^[a]his Maker—
A piece of pottery ^[b]among the other earthenware pottery pieces!
Will the ^(B)clay say to the ^[c]potter, ‘What are you doing?’
Or the thing you are making say, ‘He has no hands’?
¹⁰Woe to him who says to a father, ‘What are you fathering?’
Or to a woman, ‘To what are you ^[d]giving birth?’”

¹¹This is what the ^(C)Lord says, the Holy One of Israel and ^[e]his ^(D)Maker:

“^[f]^(E)Ask Me about the things to come ^[g]concerning My ^(F)sons,
And you shall commit to Me ^(G)the work of My hands.
¹²It is I who ^(H)made the earth, and created mankind upon it.
I ^(I)stretched out the heavens with My hands,
And I ^[h]ordained ^(J)all their ^[i]lights.
¹³I have stirred him in ^(K)righteousness,
And I will ^(L)make all his ways smooth.
He will ^(M)build My city and let My exiles go ^(N)free,
Without any payment or reward,” says the Lord of armies.

¹⁴This is what the Lord says:

“The ^[j]products of ^(O)Egypt and the merchandise of ^[k]^(P)Cush
And the Sabeans, men of stature,
Will ^(Q)come over to you and will be yours;
They will walk behind you, they will come over in ^(R)chains
And will ^(S)bow down to you;
They will plead with you:
‘^[l]^(T)God certainly is ^[m]with you, and ^(U)there is no one else,
No other God.’”
¹⁵Truly, You are a God who ^(V)hides Himself,
God of Israel, ^(W)Savior!
¹⁶They will be ^(X)put to shame and even humiliated, all of them;
The ^(Y)manufacturers of idols will go away together in humiliation.
¹⁷Israel has been saved by the Lord
With an ^(Z)everlasting salvation;
You ^(AA)will not be put to shame or humiliated
To all eternity.

¹⁸For this is what the Lord says, He who ^(AB)created the heavens (He is the God who ^(AC)formed the earth and made it, He established it and did not create it ^[n]as a ^(AD)waste place, but formed it to be ^(AE)inhabited):

“I am the Lord, and ^(AF)there is no one else.
¹⁹^(AG)I have not spoken in secret,
In ^[o]some dark land;
I did not say to the ^[p]^(AH)offspring of Jacob,
‘^(AI)Seek Me in ^[q]a wasteland’;
I, the Lord, ^(AJ)speak righteousness,
^(AK)Declaring things that are right.

²⁰“^(AL)Gather yourselves and come;
Come together, you survivors of the nations!
^(AM)They have no knowledge,
Who ^(AN)carry around ^[r]their wooden idol
And ^(AO)pray to a god who cannot save.
²¹^(AP)Declare and present your case;
Indeed, let them consult together.
^(AQ)Who has announced this long ago?
Who has long since declared it?
Is it not I, the Lord?
And there is ^(AR)no other God besides Me,
A righteous God and a ^(AS)Savior;
There is none except Me.
²²^(AT)Turn to Me and ^(AU)be saved, all the ends of the earth;
For I am God, and there is no other.
²³^(AV)I have sworn by Myself;
The ^(AW)word has gone out from My mouth in righteousness
And will not turn back,
That to Me ^(AX)every knee will bow, every tongue will ^(AY)swear allegiance.
²⁴They will say of Me, ‘Only ^(AZ)in the Lord are righteousness and strength.’
People will come to Him,
And ^(BA)all who were angry at Him will be put to shame.
²⁵In the Lord all the offspring of Israel
Will be ^(BB)justified and will ^(BC)boast.”

Amos 5:6-24

⁶^(A)Seek the Lord so that you may live,
Or He will break through like a ^(B)fire, ^[a]house of Joseph,
And it will consume with no one to extinguish it for Bethel,
⁷For those who turn ^(C)justice into wormwood,
And ^[b]throw righteousness to the earth.”

⁸He who made the ^(D)Pleiades and Orion,
And ^(E)changes deep darkness into morning,
^[c]Who also ^(F)darkens day into night,
Who ^(G)calls for the waters of the sea
And pours them out on the surface of the earth,
The ^(H)Lord is His name.
⁹It is He who ^(I)makes destruction flash upon the strong,
So that ^(J)destruction comes upon the fortress.

¹⁰They hate him who ^(K)rebukes in the ^[d]gate,
And they ^(L)despise him who speaks with integrity.
¹¹Therefore because you impose heavy ^[e]rent on the poor
And take a tribute of grain from them,
Though you have built ^(M)houses of cut stone,
Yet you will not live in them;
You have planted beautiful vineyards, yet you will ^(N)not drink their wine.
¹²For I know your offenses are many and your sins are great,
You who are ^(O)hostile to the righteous and accept bribes,
And ^[f]turn away the poor from justice at the ^[g]gate.
¹³Therefore at ^[h]such a time the prudent person ^(P)keeps quiet, because it is an evil time.

¹⁴Seek good and not evil, so that you may live;
And so may the Lord God of armies be with you,
^(Q)Just as you have said!
¹⁵^(R)Hate evil, love good,
And establish justice in the ^[i]gate!
Perhaps the Lord God of armies
^(S)Will be gracious to the ^(T)remnant of Joseph.

¹⁶Therefore this is what the Lord God of armies, the Lord says:

“There is ^(U)mourning in all the public squares,
And in all the streets they say, ‘Oh no! Oh no!’
They also call the ^(V)farmer to mourning
And ^[j]^(W)professional mourners to mourning rites.
¹⁷And in all the ^(X)vineyards there is mourning,
Because I will pass through the midst of you,” says the Lord.

¹⁸Woe to you who are longing for the ^(Y)day of the Lord,
For what ^[k]purpose will the day of the Lord be to you?
It will be ^(Z)darkness and not light;
¹⁹As when a man ^(AA)flees from a lion
And a bear confronts him,
^[l]Or he goes home, leans with his hand against the wall,
And a snake bites him.
²⁰Will the day of the Lord not be ^(AB)darkness instead of light,
Even gloom with no brightness in it?

²¹“I hate, I ^(AC)reject your festivals,
Nor do I ^[m]^(AD)delight in your festive assemblies.
²²Even though you ^(AE)offer up to Me burnt offerings and your grain offerings,
I will not accept them;
And I will not even look at the ^(AF)peace offerings of your fattened oxen.
²³Take away from Me the noise of your songs;
I will not even listen to the sound of your harps.
²⁴But let ^(AG)justice roll out like waters,
And righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.

⁴¹^(A)So then the Jews were complaining about Him because He said, “I am the bread that ^(B)came down out of heaven.” ⁴²And they were saying, “^(C)Is this not Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother ^(D)we know? How does He now say, ‘^(E)I have come down out of heaven’?” ⁴³Jesus answered and said to them, “Stop complaining among yourselves. ⁴⁴No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me ^(F)draws him; and I will ^(G)raise him up on the last day. ⁴⁵It is written ^(H)in the Prophets: ‘^(I)And they shall all be ^(J)taught of God.’ Everyone who has heard and learned from the Father, comes to Me. ⁴⁶^(K)Not that anyone has seen the Father, except the One who is from God; He has seen the Father. ⁴⁷Truly, truly, I say to you, the one who believes ^(L)has eternal life. ⁴⁸^(M)I am the bread of life. ⁴⁹^(N)Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died. ⁵⁰This is the bread that ^(O)comes down out of heaven, so that anyone may eat from it and ^(P)not die. ⁵¹^(Q)I am the living bread that ^(R)came down out of heaven; if anyone eats from this bread, ^(S)he will live forever; and the bread which I will give ^(T)for the life of the world also is ^(U)My flesh.”

⁵²^(V)Then the Jews ^(W)began to argue with one another, saying, “How can this man give us His flesh to eat?” ⁵³So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of ^(X)the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in yourselves. ⁵⁴The one who eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will ^(Y)raise him up on the last day. ⁵⁵For My flesh is true food, and My blood is true drink. ⁵⁶The one who eats My flesh and drinks My blood ^(Z)remains in Me, and I in him. ⁵⁷Just as the ^(AA)living Father ^(AB)sent Me, and I live because of the Father, the one who eats Me, he also will live because of Me. ⁵⁸This is the bread that ^(AC)came down out of heaven, not as ^(AD)the fathers ate and died; the one who eats this bread ^(AE)will live forever.”

⁵⁹These things He said ^(AF)in the synagogue as He taught ^(AG)in Capernaum.

⁶⁰So then many of His ^(AH)disciples, when they heard this, said, “^(AI)This statement is very ^[a]unpleasant; who can listen to it?” ⁶¹But Jesus, ^(AJ)aware that His disciples were complaining about this, said to them, “Is this ^[b]^(AK)offensive to you? ⁶²What then if you see ^(AL)the Son of Man ^(AM)ascending to where He was before? ⁶³^(AN)It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh provides no benefit; ^(AO)the words that I have spoken to you are spirit, and are life. ⁶⁴But there are ^(AP)some of you who do not believe.” For Jesus ^(AQ)knew from the beginning who they were who did not believe, and ^(AR)who it was who would ^[c]betray Him. ⁶⁵And He was saying, “For this reason I have ^(AS)told you that no one can come to Me unless ^(AT)it has been granted him from the Father.”

⁶⁶As a result of this many of His ^(AU)disciples ^(AV)left, and would no longer walk with Him. ⁶⁷So Jesus said to ^(AW)the twelve, “You do not want to leave also, do you?” ⁶⁸^(AX)Simon Peter answered Him, “Lord, to whom shall we go?
